Body piercing aftercare
Personal hygiene is the most important aspect after having a piercing, starting with your hands. hands are always covered in bacteria and even after washing, bacteria breeds very fast. It is for this reason that you do not touch your piercing other than when cleaning it and do not let anyone else touch it. Unless you know of any allergy you may have to antibacterial soap solutions we strongly recommend that you use only for hand washing prior to bathing your new piercing.
During the time your piercing is healing you may see a yellow discharge coming from it. This discharge will form a crust around the piercing. This discharge or weeping should not be confused with infection. Infections are very rare and are normally caused by not cleaning the piercing properly.
Cleaning procedure
Fresh salt water is a natural healing product and to our knowledge at the time of writing this page we know of no one who is allergic to this product.
To make fresh salt water you must first boil a kettle and fill a suitable container with a quarter of a pint of water. Then add a table spoon of salt (sea salt is best). Mix, allow to cool and then clean the piercing using a fresh cotton bud....
If you are a working or busy person who will not have the time or facilities to make fresh salt water then, we recommend that you buy some saline spray from your local chemist. Saline is pre sterilised salt water in a can. All piercing, apart from the tongue should be cleaned this way. Under no circumstances should you use antiseptic solution to clean your piercing unless advised by your doctor.
Tongue piercing
The tongue
is the one piercing which we recommend that you use an antiseptic mouthwash
to clean after every meal
